Hoarfrost Alpenglow (signature cocktail)
Alpenglow is the atmostpheric phenomenon where a reddish band is seen on the horizon opposite the sun. At Hoarfrost, alpenglow is a sweet citrus cocktail that is a signature of our tasting room. The cocktail’s color resembles the pink aura that shines upon the mountains at sunset.
Cocktail recipe
- Rim a 10 oz Old-Fashioned glass with sugar/lemon zest.
- Fill ¾ full with ice.
- Add 1.5 oz vanilla-lime vodka.
- Top with citrus mixture.
Alpenglow Citrus Mixture
- 6 c Ruby Red grapefruit juice
- 1 c Lemon Juice
- 1 c Simple syrup
Feel free to vary the glass size and proportions. Garnish with anything red, yellow or orange to support the color theme.
Vanilla & Lime Zest Infusion – makes 1 bottle
- 1 lime, outermost zest only
- 1 vanilla bean, sliced lengthwise
- 1 Bottle of Hoarfrost Crystal vodka, 750 ml
Zest the vanilla bean carefully. You only want the green outer skin, and not the white pith beneath. The zest has the oils we want. The amount of vanilla bean depends on how fresh it is. I have used anywhere from a whole bean (dried out and old) to one inch of bean (fresh and sticky). If the infusions starts becoming overly brown, pull the bean out early.
Filter after 3-5 days using a coffee filter.
